Railway mishap victim ‘critical’

A 21-YEAR-OLD man from Eastleigh remains in a critical condition after being struck by a train.

He is being treated at Southampton General Hospital following the incident at the gated Chandlers crossing, off Old Redbridge Road, beside the River Test at Nursling on Thursday.

Police said he had suffered “life-threatening” injuries as he was thrown clear of the track by the force of the impact.

It was the second railwayrelated accident in the Southampton area in a matter of days.

A a 16-year-old boy is in a specialist burns unit at Salisbury District Hospital after slipping onto a live rail at Swaythling station on Tuesday, August 3, and was rescued by friends.

Police say they are not treating either incident as suspicious.
