A FAMILY fun day raised £1000 to help a team of midwives deliver much-needed support in Uganda.

The day which was held at Velmore Community Centre in Chandler's Ford, saw people enjoy face painting, stalls, games and cakes.

The money raised will help a team of midwives and operation department practioners from Winchester and Basingstoke Hospitals go to Uganda in October.

They will be working in partnership with Hoima Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda.

The charity’s aim is to improve the delivery of healthcare to the people of Hoima Region, working hard in particular to improve maternal and child health.

They aim to volunteer their own services and advance the skills of medical staff in Hoima.

Senior midwife leading the trip, Laura Aspinall said: "We are all so impressed and grateful that a whole community came to support a community in Uganda with very little!

"We hope we can start our work setting up an outreach in a remoter area outside Hoima to get women referred early if they have complications."
