THE NORTHBOUND M3 was closed this morning after a car crashed into the central reservation.

One lane of the motorway was shut near junction 11, just south of Winchester.

All lanes have since been reopened but rush hour drivers are still facing long delays.

Queues are tailing back to junction 14 for the M27 with delays of around half an hour.

Ambulances and fire crews from Winchester, Eastleigh and Redbridge all attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Winchester fire station said that a car had crashed into the central reservation of the motorway, trapping one person in their vehicle.

They added: "A car had gone into the central reservation and a person was trapped with suspected spinal injuries."

Firefighters took the roof off the car and freed the person before handing him over to the ambulance service.

They were stood down just after 7am although drivers are still facing long delays on the motorway.

Another incident happened on the eastbound carriageway of the M27 near Rownhamsservices.

Delays are being reported back to junction three for Nursling.

An image of the incident shows a white HGV blocking lane one of the motorway while a black car is pulled over in front of it, just after the slip road for the services.
