POLICE have arrested a man after a "bomb" caused an explosion in a phone box.

The 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing an explosion likely to endanger life or injure property.

Police say their initial investigations lead to them to believe aerosol cans and a firework had been placed inside the telephone box in Bishop's Waltham and lit.

Residents reported hearing a massive bang at about 3am on Tuesday and emergency services rushed to the scene.

They found the wooden door on the floor and some of the windows had been shattered.

No-one was injured and no damage was caused outside of the phone box on The Avenue.

One resident, Chris Barfoot, said that electricity was cut off for around 20 minutes after the incident.

Hampshire police have confirmed that they have arrested a 24-year-old man from Eastleigh in relation to the incident.
