LABOUR leftwing leader candidate Jeremy Corbyn, is set to appear in Hampshire, at the Hilton Hotel.

He will is set to speak at the hotel at the Ageas Bowl on Tuesday, as the battle to become the party’s next leader enters its final stages.

Entry to the event at the Botley Road hotel is only open to party members who register first.

A party email says: “This is your chance to hear Jeremy outline his case for a different sort of leadership, as well as other key supporters on the campaign.

“Places at the event are limited so please register early to avoid disappointment.”

The race to become next leader was sparked by the party’s poor General Election result which led to the resignation of Ed Miliband from the top job.

The party lost Southampton Itchen –, which it had held since 1992 – in May when as theConservatives were elected with a slim majority.

Veteran MP Mr Corbyn, 66, had not been expected to have a chance after being nominated by MPs who wanted to “widen the debate” about the party’s future.

But he looks to be on course for victory, with rival candidates Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Liz Kendall trailing in his wake in most polls.

He is not the first leadership contender to visit Hampshire recently.

Ms Kendall appeared at an ice cream parlour in Southampton last weekend and Mr Burnham spoke to party members in the city earlier this month.

Mr Corbyn was selected as the Southampton Itchen constituencyLabour party’s preferred candidate.

While the vote in Southampton Test resulted in a dead heat between him and Mr Burnham.
