FOREIGN language students have been soaking up culture and improving their character writing skills.
Barton Peveril College students went to the Japanese Embassy in London for Club Taishikan, which runs a series of workshops on origami, calligraphy, traditional dress and dancing, and more.
They discovered more about Japan’s love of Yosakoi Soran, a style of dance, and learnt a short routine using wooden clappers called ‘naruko’ (pictured below).
The group also had an opportunity to wear yukata (summer kimonos) and happi coats, once practical garments but now usually worn to festivals or other special occasions.
