PETER Symonds College students have shown their academic capabilities with 43 receiving offers from Oxford or Cambridge.

The group come from 21 different secondary schools, mainly across Hampshire.

Kalpana Shenoi, the college’s Oxbridge tutor, said: “The students have done very well to get through such a rigorous selection process as admission to Oxbridge courses is getting harder every year because of intense competition.

“Cambridge, for example, is asking for two A* grades for Natural Sciences and in some cases two A* grades for English while Cambridge Mathematics candidates are now required to gain A*A*A, as well as two excellent results in the STEP modules.”
