FIRE crews tackled a suspected arson blaze at a bungalow in Hampshire this morning.

A car at the house in Bishopstoke was completely destroyed, while two other cars were also targeted in suspected failed arson attacks on neighbouring streets.

A group of youths were seen playing with fireworks in the area before the fire, and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Fire crews were called to the bungalow in Rhinefield Close in Bishopstoke at 3.06am to reports of a vehicle fire.

One of the occupants, a 51-year-old man, had reported seeing a youth in his driveway shortly before the fire started.

The youngster, who he said was white, wearing a red top and about 19 years old, was kneeling by the occupant's grey Mazda and shouted "it's on fire" before running away.

A red Ford Fiesta in the driveway and a fence were set alight, and the fire spread to the property's garage, cladding and front door.

The Fiesta was completely destroyed, while the garage was also severely damaged.

The Mazda was not damaged.

Both of the home's occupants, the 51-year-old man and a woman in her 60s, had gotten out of the property.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with high-pressure hose reels and had put it out completely by 5.10am.

One involved a car which had been left unlocked by its owner round the corner from Rhinefield Close, and which had had sheets of A4 paper set alight in it.

And the petrol cap of a silver Audi estate was unscrewed in Guest Road, with a piece of cardboard being put in it and set alight.

Luckily in both cases the material failed to set alight and both cars escaped serious damage.

Hampshire Constabulary are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with information should contact the force on 101.
