A well-known property landlord has been arrested and charged with harassment against two local politicians in the run-up to the recent elections.
John Airey, 54, of Thurmond Crescent, Stanmore, is alleged to have targeted former city councillors Patrick Davies and Peter Rees on April 28, April 29, and May 1.
Prosecutors say he put up a poster in North Walls and delivered leaflets to homes in Canon Street and Monarch Way.
Mr Davies was the Labour parliamentary candidate at the General Election and Mr Rees was contesting the St Luke ward at the city council poll.
Airey appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court where he denied the charges. The case was adjourned to Andover Magistrates’ Court on July 21. He was released on bail.
