A WINCHESTER inmate who attacked a prison officer has had his sentence extended.

Shaquille Bailey, 19, changed his initial plea of no guilty to guilty for assaulting Jonathan Cheyne at the prison on Romsey Road on May 24, magistrates in Basingstoke heard.

Bailey, now at Highdown Prison in Surrey, had 21 days added to his sentence.

The court heard he had used a weapon in the attack.

There was no order for compensation, victim surcharge or costs because of Bailey's lack of means.

Winchester Prison has recently been in the news with a lockdown recently caused by a breakdown in order.

The families of inmates say there has been a quantity of 'spice' smuggled into the jail which has made many inmates aggressive.
