A HAMPSHIRE man who ransacked a Winchester family home, stealing items worth £10,000, has been jailed for more than three years.

Antony Agnew, 26, was one of four masked burglars who stole a watch, jewellery, and clothing from the property in Dean Lane.

The home-owners were left distressed by footage of the burglary that was captured by in-house CCTV.

It showed raiders calmly moving through the house and searching for items.

At one point in the lounge, Agnew, whose face is half-covered by a bandana, spots the camera and bolts over the sofa.

The footage was then given to the police, who subsequently arrested Agnew.

The 26-year-old, of Alder Road, Southampton, pleaded guilty to burglary at Portsmouth Crown Court and was jailed for three years and one month.

Police say they know it was part of a series of high-value burglaries carried out in the north and west of Hampshire in January.

However, the other three burglars are still being sought be the authorities.

Detective Sergeant Will Whale of Operation Hawk said: “The identification of Agnew has disrupted a major criminal group that we know has committed further high value burglaries.

“It was clearly distressing for the victims to have to watch their home being ransacked.

“They have been traumatised by this burglary and I would like to thank them for their strength in supporting us in this complex investigation– including allowing the CCTV footage to be used in the media.

“Such is the graphic nature of the footage that we believe someone will come forward to identify the other members of this organised criminal group.”
