A FORMER Saints player caught speeding on his motorbike has been slapped with a £950 bill.

Nicky Banger, who already had six points on his licence when he was caught driving almost twice the limit, was told if he speeds again he will lose his licence no matter his mitigation.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard the 45-year-old, of Knights Meadow, North Baddesley, was driving 56mph on Romsey Road, in Cadnam – a 30mph road.

Banger, pictured below, was driving a black BMW GS1200 when he was clocked by manned equipment on September 4.

He originally pleaded not guilty but changed his plea last minute when he appeared before Judge Anthony Callaway on Monday.

The court heard Banger had already been caught speeding twice in the past.

In mitigation, Mr Cunningham said the defendant’s 12-year-old daughter had cerebral palsy and at the time of the offence Banger was getting some respite.

After being told Banger’s licence was vital to him, Judge Callaway told the former striker that everyone’s licence was important.

“If you value your licence then you will drive properly”, he added.

Banger was given four points on his licence and told to pay a £500 fine, £400 in costs and a £50 victim surcharge.

Striker Banger played for Saints between 1989 and 1994, before moving to Oldham Athletic for a fee of about £250,000.

He later coached at Eastleigh, and was commercial manager at Romsey Town. But the Daily Echo reported in January 2007 that he had been sacked after just 17 days in the role.
