POLICE have today a released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to following the theft of more than £6,000 in Winchester.

The victim was paying for her shopping in Waitrose, Stockbridge Road, weeke, when she noticed a man who was stood very close to her, At some time between 1pm and 1.30pm on Monday, January 23.

She left the store and went to the underground car park. The man followed her to her car and while she was putting her shopping in the back of the car, he opened the passenger door and stole her purse.

The man then used all seven of her bank cards to withdraw money from ATMs in Winchester town centre. In total he got away with £6,450.

The man police want to speak to is described as being aged 40 to 50, with a shaved head, wearing a red and blue chequered shirt, a blue puffa coat, blue jeans and red trainers.

Cheryl Fisher, leading the investigation, said: “Do you recognise the man in the CCTV? If you think you know who he is, please call us as soon as possible.

“As always, when paying for goods and entering your PIN please be vigilant as to who is watching you. Carry your bag close to you and keep it secure at all times. Never leave your bag unattended in an unlocked car whilst you unload your shopping into your vehicle.
