POLICE are hunting a thug who attacked a woman in Winchester city centre.

They have released a CCTV image after a 23-year-old woman was assaulted on the High Street at around 11.20pm on Sunday, January 29.

The man, whom she did not know, approached her whilst she was sitting on a bench.

He has been described as white, aged in his 20s, and wearing a jacket and woolly bobble hat.

The man was also seen riding a bicycle and smoking a cigarette in the area near this time.

Officers have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

PC Helen Carthew said: “We are keen to identify the person shown in the CCTV image as he may have information to assist our enquiries.

“The image is dark, but we hope that somebody may recognise the distinctive clothing this person is wearing.

“If you recognise this person, or believe this to be you, then please call police immediately.

“I would also like to advise members of the public to stick with a group of friends when out late at night, and to report any suspicious behaviour to police.”
