A PROPERTY lawyer who fired off letters to relatives of her husband's mistress describing the woman's “bizarre sexual practices” has avoided jail.

Katherine Simpson, 49, revealed intimate details of antics involving her husband Jonathan, 48, and his lover to her brother, sister-in-law and her former partner.

Mrs Simpson described her as a “chavvy woman from Southampton” with “fake boobs” before firing off the letters.

But she was handed a curfew and a restraining order at Southwark Crown Court after being described as more of a “victim” due to the affair.

The curfew is also set not to include an electronic tag which is often used to track offenders.

It is also set to be lifted between August 12 and 31 so that Mrs Simpson can take her children away on holiday to help them try and move on from the situation.

Judge Alistair McCreath said: “I have no doubt at all that the discovery of that affair was at the very least distressing for you if not rather worse.”

The judge added that there must have been “a time of real, real unhappiness” during the affair.

udge McCreath also referred to comments made by Mrs Simpson in which she dubbed the other woman a “chav” and her boyfriend a “thug who should be kept in a cage”.

“At a time of high emotion and in circumstances where you were in your own home being recorded without the courtesy of being told that you were being recorded you allowed yourself to speak in a way you her that you would not normally speak, I think, of anybody.

“What happened thereafter I have no difficulty at all in accepting you did to offer support to your husband.”

Sentencing Mrs Simpson, the judge added that he did not want to unfairly punish her “innocent” children who “have suffered by what happened”.

“The person to be punished must be the person who committed the crime, not others.

“The proportionate response to that balance, it seems to me, is to deprive you of your liberty to an extent which is designed to be significant but not to a kind that will have an adverse and disproportionate impact on your children.”

Mr Simpson and the other woman - who cannot be named for legal reasons - had an 18 month affair which left him going back to "like a crack addict".

His wife claimed she contracted herpes as a by-product of the other woman's 'bizarre sexual practices' before going on to rant about her to a cover police camera.

Mrs Simpson was found guilty of harassing the woman by sending three letters to those close to her which referenced her and her child's 'wellbeing'.

Mrs Simpson explicitly wrote that she wanted the woman to drop the restraining order and that she "stay out of Winchester".

David Sapiecha, prosecuting, summarised a victim impact statement to the court to highlight the effect the situation had had on the other woman.

Mr Sapiecha said: “She wants to get on with her life without fear or worry.

“She feels violated, highly embarrassed and degraded - in constant worry and distress.

“It has been a traumatic experience.”

Jeremy Dein QC, said: “Katherine Simpson has had to stand by and watch as she has been portrayed in the media in unattractive and controversial terms.

“Her reputation is entirely destroyed.”

The Simpsons, both of Clifton Terrace, Winchester, were each found guilty of a single count of stalking involving serious alarm or distress on Friday.

Mrs Simpson was handed a 12 month restraining order and made subject of a curfew for a year which means she must stay at home between 10pm and 6.30am on weekdays and between 7pm and 6am on Saturdays and Sundays.

Mr Simpson was cleared of acting in breach of a restraining order and is set to be sentenced on June 29.
