POLICE are appealing today for information after a man was assaulted in Winchester.

The 21-year-old victim was on the footpath by Peninsula Road and Erskine Road when he was attacked between 10.30-10.36pm on Saturday evening, March 19.

He was taken to hospital where he was treated for head injuries.

Det Con Tracy West said today: “This was a vicious assault, to the point where the victim has no memory of what happened. The motive for this attack is currently unknown, but it may have been a robbery as the victim no longer has his iPhone 6.

“This incident happened very close to the university and it was a Saturday evening. I am appealing to local residents and students who were in the area, who may have overheard an argument between some men, or may have seen what happened, to come forward.

“The victim does remember that he was using his phone at the time of the attack. As always, we would tell people to be mindful of their personal safety and try to avoid openly displaying their phones or other valuable items, leaving themselves open to items being stolen.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con West by calling 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
