TWO dumped cars near Winchester were set to be removed after being ignored for weeks.

The inaction over the wrecked vehicles at South Wonston and Cheriton has baffled villagers.

Robert Wellbeloved, of Orchard Close, South Wonston, said the saloon had been in woodland off Christmas Hill, South Wonston for several months.

Mr Wellbeloved said: "Why has nothing been done to remove it after such a long time? The other question that ought to be investigated is how the vehicle ended up in this location.

"Although it is only a matter of yards from both roads (A34 and Christmas Hill), the wrecked car is surrounded by trees and this section of the A34 is in a deep cutting."

The other abandoned car is a Citroen on the A272 near Cheriton, close to the Beauworth crossroads.

A villager in Cheriton, who asked not to be named, said: "The car was abandoned before Christmas and now the windows have been smashed in. It's not the sort of thing one expects to see in Cheriton."

A city council spokeswoman said: "Both vehicles have been reported to us and are being dealt with by our Neighbourhood Services Team.

"The vehicle at Christmas Hill is likely to be removed either Friday afternoon or at the latest on Monday, (February 1).

"The vehicle on Petersfield Road has only just been reported, once notice has been served the owner then has three days to get in contact."

Meanwhile Jill Thorne has sent in a photo of plastic guttering dumped in Littleton Lane, Littleton.

She said: "It is unforgiveable, we live in a beautiful part of England. This is an eyesore."
