POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a serious burglary at a Winchester jewellers.
Thieves broke into Bellis Jewellery, in the High Street, between 6pm and 10.45pm on Monday night, taking what police described as a "large amount of jewellery".
They damaged several display stands, leaving shattered glass on the shop floor.
Detective Constable Sian Newland, from the Northern Investigation Team, said: “A large amount of jewellery has been stolen in this burglary and it may be that this jewellery will be offered for sale locally and cheaply.
“I’d like to speak to anyone who might have seen anything odd or out of place on Monday evening even if they might not have thought much of it at the time.”
Bellis's back exit, onto St George's Street, was cordoned off by tape and a police car on Tuesday morning.
The shop is now closed.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Newland on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
