FIVE people who were arrested in connection with an unprovoked attack in Winchester which left a man with serious injuries have been released without charge.

Police were appealing for information after the incident on November 14 last year in St Cross Road.

A man was rushed to Royal Hampshire County Hospital with severe face and head injuries.

The 35-year-old told police he was walking with a friend when they were approached by a group of four men and a woman as they reached the junction with Ranelagh Road.

Some of the group struck the two men.

It happened at around 3.35am and at the time police were looking to question the driver of a silver people-carrier sized taxi which was in the area.

Five people, including a 22-year-old man, three 21-year-old men and an 18-year-old woman, were later arrested and questioned.

All were bailed until February 4, and again until April 7, but have now been released without charge.
