POLICE are warning of a scam after three people were yesterday targeted in Winchester.
Fraudsters attempted to obtain bank details or cash using bogus telephone calls and couriers.
In each of the incidents someone claimed to be a police officer from Hammersmith and stated that a man had been arrested and was in possession of the targeted person's bank card. They were asked to phone their bank.
The three people who received the calls yesterday were all aware of the scam and hung up without giving any details. They also reported it to Hampshire police.
Had they continued with the call, the fraudsters stay on the line and then ask for bank details before sending a courier to the address to collect cash or bank cards.
Police are encouraging people to make elderly relatives, friends or neighbours aware of the scam.
To report a similar incident call police on 101.
