HUELIN-Renouf shipping is adding the French port Cherbourg to its Channel Islands freight link from Southampton.
The move from the largest Channel Islands-owned shipping company, follows last month’s addition of the island of Alderney to its services.
It is the latest development in a period of substantial investment and growth which began in January last year with the relocation of the company’s UK operations from Portsmouth to a multi-million-pound purpose-built logistics terminal in Southampton, pictured.
It has also seen the company substantially increasing its cargo-carrying capacity and number of sailings on the UK-Channel Islands routes. The investment has resulted in the introduction of new services, such as the capacity to carry chilled and frozen products.
Chairman Jonathan Bale said: “Huelin-Renouf has a long and distinguished history serving the needs of Channel Islanders, and we are committed to providing the best possible connections and service for our customers. We are delighted to be able to close the loop between the Channel Islands, the UK and the Continent, and we look forward to developing these ties with our new French connection.”
The company makes its first scheduled weekly visit to Cherbourg on Friday and the service is expected to increase in frequency.
