INNOVATIVE Hampshire Engineers Gifford have won a hat-trick of new contracts in the desert state of Abu Dhabi.
It is just the latest in an impressive succession of wins the Woodlands, near Totton, based consultancy has landed since opening a Dubai office 12 years ago.
The latest success see Gifford designing a major new bridge and interchange, including six underpasses for a new road scheme at Abu Dhabi airport.
At the same time, bosses have won a contract to design and supervise construction of a sea wall and shore protection scheme on Al Sowah Island, just off the emirate’s coast.
Finally, they have won work on a major private marina on a private island near the city.
Colin Morris, director of Gifford’s Middle East operations, said: “We’re delighted to have won these important new contracts in Abu Dhabi which continues the spread of our work throughout the region.”
The work is the latest fruit of the 12-strong Dubai team, which principally specialises in structural engineering.
Other highlights include the striking landmark Capital Gate tower, pictured, being built for the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, not far from the new Grand Prix circuit that will host its first F1 race in November.
Leaning more than any other building on Earth, including the Tower of Pisa, Gifford were called in to make sure the 34-storey building can cope with the stresses of its design.
