A CHARITY golf day has put a Basingstoke law firm on course for another year of fundraising success.

Clarke & Son Solicitors, based in Winchester Road, was one of the first Our Partner corporate supporters of Ark Cancer Centre Charity in February 2015 and since then, the firm has raised £55,000 for Ark’s campaign to help fund a local cancer treatment centre.

Ark is Clarke & Son’s Charity of the Year again in 2018/19, and the team have set themselves a £15,000 fundraising target over the 12 months.

This year’s campaign got off to a flying start as more than £4,000 was raised at a charity golf day at Dummer Golf Club with 64 golfers in 16 teams taking part.

Various awards were handed out with the overall team prize, won by a single point, going to the Clarke & Son team of Tertius Alberts, James Clifton, Nick Butt and Nick Hoadley.

Adam Davies chalked up a double success, winning the nearest the pin and longest drive contests, while Chris Lockley won the straightest drive prize.

Darren Lovegrove, marketing manager at Clarke & Son, said: “We are delighted that the charity golf day was a great success, and we are grateful to everyone who took part and supported the event.

“The Clarke & Son team are passionate about supporting Ark and the cancer treatment centre project, and we have a range of events coming up that will help us to achieve our fundraising goal for 2018-19.”

Next up, residential conveyancer Marie Pym will be doing a sponsored wing walk on August 11, and on August 27, seven more daredevils from the firm are aiming to do a sponsored abseil down the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “The support for Ark from the Clarke & Son team has been absolutely awesome

“They are a wonderful, friendly, fun and supportive team who have thrown themselves into fundraising for the charity, and they have really made a big difference.

“It is great that their 2018-19 fundraising campaign has got off to such a brilliant start with the successful charity golf day, and everyone at Ark wishes the team well for the various challenges over the coming months.”

The £5m appeal will ensure a range of services and therapies are available alongside chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in a centre, largely being funded by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), based at Basingstoke hospital.
