BRITAIN’S largest doorstep milk delivery service, is rolling out its quietest and most-environmentally friendly delivery vehicles to date on the south coast.

Milk & More’s £6.5 million spend on the 200 StreetScooters is part of a three-year investment programme to secure the future of the much-loved British milkman and makes the business one of the largest operators of electric vehicles in the country.

It is the first UK company to operate the StreetScooter EV van model, presently only used in Germany, by Deutsche Post.

Milk & More delivers to 67,000 homes along the south coast from its delivery hubs in Southampton, Burgess Hill, Chichester, Poole, Eastbourne and Newport.

Nationally, since January 2018, it has secured more than 40,000 new online customers, 90 per cent of whom are purchasing their milk in its iconic glass bottles, each of which can be reused on average 25 times.

Powered by rechargeable batteries, the StreetScooters are replacing diesel vehicles on urban rounds and will make up a third of the fleet.

Noise reduction is a benefit given that many of the milkmen and women are delivering to customers’ homes before 7am.

The new milk floats have zero emissions and in the first month of operation Milk & More has seen a 90 per cent reduction in operational fuel costs.

Patrick Müller, CEO of Milk & More, said: “The StreetScooter is an ideal fit, from an environmental and noise reduction standpoint, for both us and our customers. We’re on a transformational journey, and the StreetScooter certainly helps us make this iconic tradition relevant to 21st century customers.”
