FOOD from seed to the dinner table was the subject of an event held at a business park.

Chineham Park Business Park staged the lunchtime Seed-To-Plate event for participants to learn how to prepare the best conditions for planting vegetables, how to plant and then care for their seedlings, including being given detailed advice on watering and where to store the plants.

Stephen Packham, the contracts manager for Nuture Landscapes, also explained how to transfer the seedlings, giving expert advice on when and where to put the young plants into the garden to get the best produce.

Wendy Scott, customer manager at the business park, said: “Chineham Park is promoting well-being across the park, sponsoring a local running club and organising free talks from local physiotherapists, so we wanted to extend this initiative to healthy food too and arranged our first ever Seed-to-Plate event.

“We made sure the sessions were suitable for beginners and more experienced gardeners, cooks and food-lovers who want to develop their skills in organic, sustainable gardening and provided all the materials required.

All the surplus equipment, soil and seeds were donated to the onsite nursery, Bright Horizons, for children to use to kickstart their own kitchen garden project.
