A BASINGSTOKE architecture practice is celebrating after winning two awards.

Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt, based in Basing View, were awarded a Civic Trust Award for their Tadley youth centre and the ‘Practice of the year’ award from World Architecture News.

The firm is best known for its work on The Point in Newchurch Road, Tadley, which was designed with the young people of Tadley. The community centre has two halls, a music room and a recording studio.

The Civic Trust Awards judges commended the project, which was one of 18 national and international winners selected from 234 applications. It said: “This building has extraordinary presence. It is startling and, brilliantly, it speaks of youth.”

Director of Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt, David Ayre, said: "We are incredibly proud of the team and what we have accomplished together. Being selected as ‘Practice of the Year’ from a shortlist of highly regarded firms from around the globe is an incredible honour.

“We’ve expanded rapidly over the last couple of years and we’re now in a position where we are collaborating and competing with nationally and internationally significant practices. It’s a very exciting time.”

Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt was one of six innovative companies shortlisted for the World Architecture News ‘Practice of the Year’ Award. The shortlist included Seattle-based LMN Architects, ODA New York and CetraRuddy, the architects behind the New York skyscraper, One Madison.
