PLANS for extra-care homes for the elderly in Alresford are set to be approved by city councillors today.
Winchester City Council’s planning committee is being urged by officers to approve the proposal for the Warwick Trailers site in The Dean.
Shane Paull, regional managing director developer, McCarthy and Stone, said: “We are delighted that Winchester City Council’s planning team is recommending approval for our Assisted Living scheme. Given that The Dean is a high-profile site in Alresford, we have worked hard to develop a high-quality scheme for the site and the town.
“Our plans are the first to come forward that provides support for Winchester’s Local Plan, but more importantly if approved it will also allow Warwick Trailers, a successful local company, the opportunity to continue to grow."
Assisted Living (Extra Care) accommodation helps to meet the needs of the frail elderly, where the average age of residents is 84, offering on-site care and support whilst promoting independent, active and healthy lifestyles.
Facilities include a full service restaurant, dining room and residents’ lounge. Developments are staffed 24hrs a day, providing residents with access to both personal and domestic assistance as required.
Under the proposed local plan the industry currently will mostly relocate with a part of the proposed development off Sun Hill set aside for industry.
