JUST six months on from a successful management buy-out a Hampshire IT firm has made major investments in two data companies.

Totton-based Amicus ITS has taken substantial stakes in London-based in a leading business intelligence and big data analytics firm Granger Smith Consulting and Curatrix Technologies in Havant which offers computer backup and disaster recovery.

Earlier this year we reported that Amicus’s management team, led by MD, Steve Jackson completed a buy-out of the company from Care UK, which had owned it for three years.

Amicus provides technical support for almost a quarter of the NHS 111 call network. As a Crown Commercial Services supplier it is a recognised provider of technology services to central government, local authorities and NHS trusts and among its other public sector clients are the National Archives at Kew.

It also has a number of big-name clients in the private sector such as Volvo, Estée Lauder and Ageas.

The link up with Granger Smith and Curatrix will enable Amicus to broaden its customer base in both the healthcare and financial services sectors.

Speaking about the latest raft of investments, Steve Mr Jackson said: “The definition of an IT-managed service provider has changed radically over the last three years.

Today, it doesn’t matter what device, platform, or where you are in the world - you just want the information from your data quickly. As we know, data lies at the heart of every organisation and the security of this is paramount. Managing data securely and providing complete holistic support is what we do 24x365 for all our healthcare and regulated industry customers.

“Our investment in Granger Smith Consulting for Business Intelligence (BI) and big data analytics, creates differentiation and will enable our customers to make informed and accurate business decisions.

“We are able to provide corporate assurance for enterprise organisations that all their data is fully secured, backed up in the UK and always available, with full Data Protection and Replication solutions incorporated through our investment into Curatrix Technologies.

Our investments in both companies demonstrates our belief and commitment in the growth of these technology areas”.

Managing director of Granger Smith Consulting, Simon Smith said: “Data is exploding at an exponential rate, but characteristically, we, as humans, like to create order out of chaos, by transforming data into something meaningful. “There is no limit to how much value an organisation can add by using our world-leading business intelligence. Partnering with Amicus ITS enables us to expand our reach alongside a highly-respected technology solutions player with all the right credentials”.

Curatrix’s MD Martyn Randell added: ”Data backup and replication are fundamental for protecting an organisations data . We are recognised as a significant and trusted organisation in our sector and we are looking forward to supporting Amicus ITS’ widening healthcare customer base and their regulatory organisations as we embark on this exciting journey together”.

The investment comes two months after Amicus launched two advanced cyber security services, Foxcatcher and Amicus Viper.

The firm says deals with Curatrix and Gramger Smith are part of a wider strategic investment plan by Amicus ITS’ parent group, Amicus Holdings and further investments will be made in the near future.

Amicus now employs 200, including contractors, at its Totton offices which Steve Jackson hopes will become a tech hub for the area. He said the company was looking to invest in start-ups in their sector.
