A WELL-known tax partner at Baker Tilly in Basingstoke has been elected to be the next vice-president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

Chartered accountant Nick Parker, based at Baker Tilly’s Springpark House offices in Basing View, has served as an elected council member at the leading professional accountancy body since 1995.

During those 20 years he has been a member of the ICAEW board, chaired its council for three years and also chaired its members’ board, during which time ICAEW established the members’ group in Scotland.

He is currently chairman of ICAEW’s audit committee as well as being a member of the board.

Nick is also involved with the Southern Society of Chartered Accountants (SOSCA).

He said: “I am totally committed to upholding the strong traditions and values of ICAEW whilst at the same time looking to continue the essential and ongoing programme of modernisation.

“As a professional body, ICAEW needs to continue to act in the public interest, maintain standards and the reputation of the profession and ensure that our accountancy qualification is attractive to potential students.”

ICAEW president Arthur Bailey said: “Nick will be an excellent asset to the current ICAEW office holders team and a worthy president of ICAEW in due course.”

He will serve as vice-president from June 2015 to June 2016, and will serve as ICAEW president from June 2017 to June 2018.

The ICAEW provides leadership and practical support to more than 144,000 members in more than 160 countries.
