WINCHESTER features in another high-profile British film, The Riot Club, which opens in cinemas today.

Scenes were shot in the Great Hall and Winchester College.

The cast and crew spent two days filming fencing scenes in the Great Hall and three days at the college, bringing in an estimated £160,000 to the local economy.

The filming follows on from Les Miserables filmed around the Cathedral Close and Winchester College in 2012.

Filming was made possible through the Film Hampshire, who assisted with the initial location searches.

Based within Hampshire County Council’s Economic Development department, Film Hampshire regularly aids location searches for film companies and Location Managers wanting to shoot in the county. Their database features around 400 locations spread across Hampshire, showcasing the diversity and beauty of the region.

Councillor Seán Woodward, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “It’s good to see that once again Winchester has been able to play host to another a high profile film with three of the UK’s up and coming actors Max Irons, Sam Claflin and Douglas Booth.

“Associations like these increase tourism, and the tourism sector plays a vital role in the local economy. It generates well over £3 billion each year from visitors coming into Hampshire, and provides more than 60,000 jobs.”

Film Hampshire have aided location searches for several Hollywood blockbusters including Les Misérables, The Monuments Men, World War Z and James Bond films. They have also recently assisted production teams with queries relating to Downton Abbey series 5 and 24: Live Another Day.
