GOOD news for jobseekers and people looking to make a career move – a jobs fair is set to be staged by The Gazette at a key Basingstoke venue.

The Anvil will be the place to go on October 14 as the free-to-attend fair takes place from 10am to 5pm.

Gazette advertising manager Tessa Reid said: “The Basingstoke Gazette Jobs Fair 2014 aims to provide a valuable link between employers and employees.

“It will be a great opportunity for those either looking to get on the job ladder, change their job or have a change in their career.

“And it is especially aimed at young people who are maybe coming up to finishing their college or university courses.

“This is an ideal opportunity to find out what sort of companies we have locally and what opportunities there are – all in one place. Jobseekers will have a chance to meet people from different companies and find out what they do and offer.”

Among the local companies exhibiting will be healthcare recruitment specialists Nurse Plus and Capricorn Automotive which specialises in the manufacture of precision engine components for the motorsport and high-performance cars and bikes. The National Careers Service will also be attending the event.

“They will be offering advice and tips to help people write job-winning CVs and job applications, as well as offering seminars,” said Tessa.

The fair is a great opportunity for businesses too, whether they are a large, medium or small company.

“We feel it is a good way for companies to get a higher profile and engage with the community, especially for businesses that are looking to expand or employ more people.”

Tessa said there are plenty of other reasons to exhibit at the Jobs Fair.

“Businesses can meet prospective employees face-to-face before the interview stage. It’s also a good platform to gain publicity for their products as well as career opportunities.”

Delighted that the fair is being held at The Anvil, Tessa said: “The venue is ideal and should attract a high footfall, being in the town centre, close to the railway and bus stations.

The event will be promoted across Newsquest titles in-paper and online over the coming weeks, including on basingstokegazette.co.uk.
