2:43pm Saturday 26th November 2011 in Bishop's Waltham By Joseph Curtis
WORK has started on new tennis courts in Wickham this week for a newly-formed club.
Two floodlit courts are being built at the Wickham Community Centre in Mill Lane for use by Wickham Community Tennis Club.
The courts are being funded by the Lawn Tennis Association and through developers’ contributions from planning applications.
Five free lessons on the courts are being offered first-come first-served to residents of Wickham and Knowle and new members are welcome from surrounding villages.
The work is expected to be complete by January 2012 in time for an introductory event at the community centre on Thursday, January 12 from 6.30pm-8.30pm, complete with tennis goody bags and refreshments.
There will also be an opportunity to sample indoor mini tennis throughout the evening.
