Winchester civic chiefs are resigned to losing the Meon Valley constituency after only one term.
City councillors are supporting Boundary Commission proposals that the Meon Valley, only created in 2005, be merged back into Winchester and to the new Fareham and Horndean constituency.
Five city council wards would go to Fareham; Boarhunt and Southwick, Denmead, Shedfield, Whiteley and Wickham.
Councillors on the licensing and regulation committee are proposing that Shedfield comes back to Winchester.
The committee believes that the Winchester constituency should have as many city council wards in it as possible.
Its recommendations will go to the full council meeting on November 2.
The Government is proposing widespread changes nationally to try to make all constituencies roughly the same size. In England 533 constituencies will be reduced to 502.
