A YEAR after a Droxford pub was taken over, it has won a special award.
Owners of The Bakers Arms, couple Anna Thompson, 31, from Yorkshire and Adam Cordery, 32, from Swanmore who is also the pub's chef, said they were delighted all their hard work had paid off.
They took the pub over a year ago and this month picked up the Hampshire Life Dining Pub of the Year Award.
The Bakers Arms beat off two other pubs for the accolade and the business is going from strength to strength.
Miss Thompson said: "We have only been here a year and it is just a village pub and we beat The Yew Tree owned by Marco Pierre White in Highclere and The Peate and Spade in Stockbridge. We didn't enter ourselves, it is all from customer feed back and people recommending us. The final was judged by anonymous diners.
"When we took the pub over there was a lot to do and we have built it up into a lovely community pub that does great food and has a great atmosphere and it is wonderful to win something like this as it is our first business."
