AN MP has raised motorcycle nuisance with the new Police and Crime Commissioner.

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery met Michael Lane to discuss combating motorcycle noise and speeding on the A32 and A272.

Residents’ lives are being made a misery by the bikes, which often speed in large numbers.

The MP has been working with the police for several years to try and tackle the problem and he talked about the next moves with Mr Lane when the pair spoke abotu it when they met in Winchester.

Mr Lane made a manifesto commitment to address the issue and told Mr Hollingbery he will work to find match funding for average speed cameras along the routes and would be talking to parish councils about where they should be placed.

“This is a major source of complaint for many people living along these routes so the installing of average speed cameras, forcing motorcyclists to slow down along large sections of the road rather than just when the fixed point camera is there, will be a big improvement,” said Mr Hollingbery.

“I’m very pleased that Michael sees tackling this problem as a priority and I’m sure progress is now going to be made.

“I understand that many motorcyclists ride perfectly within the law, but the minority really are making the lives of residents living on or near these roads a misery, especially over the summer months.”
