ITS' the day a small part of the Meon Valley looks forward to every year.

And this year's Swanmore Village Fete proved to be as popular as ever with music, games, stalls and a plethora of homemade produce.

For the first time in a long time there was no carnival parade and instead visitors were invited to attend in fancy dress, to gain free entry to the event, in the style of their favourite fairy-tale character.

Prizes were handed out for the best costumes which saw a wide variety of entrants donning the look of well-known characters from books and films.

The gates were opened at the New Road recreation ground at 12.30pm to eager residents, keen to get a good spot for the day's live music line-up.

Contraband kicked off the entertainment, following the official opening, which was followed by the judging of the fancy dress competition.

There was Greenery Country Dancing before the Soberton Strummers took to the stage, before the Marriott fitness team got every person up to Zumba with a special demonstration.

Swanmore College's jazz band performed a range of popular tunes shortly before Roynon School of dance performers took over the arena.

The day finished off with the raffle but not before visitors got the chance to look over some of the many classic cars and motorbikes driven in from across the county just for the event.
