BISHOP'S Waltham residents will be asked for their views this summer on new guidelines encouraging developers to respect the town's character.

A design statement suggesting ways housing and business schemes should look is being worked on by volunteers and parish councillors.

A draft, featuring maps, photographs and policies, will go on show in King's Church from July 1-3.

The exhibition will also be on the High Street on Sunday, July 5, and an online questionnaire will be available throughout the month.

Cllr Robert Shields told a parish council meeting last week: "We're working very rapidly to produce one in double quick time. It's getting on well."

He said some developers looking at projects in the town have expressed an interest in the guidelines, which are set to be submitted to Winchester City Council in October.
