HAMPSHIRE farmland is set for a makeover this weekend with a national ploughing competition.
The British National Ploughing Championships & Country Festival will see 250 ploughmen, including five plough-women, descend on Wootton St Lawrence, near Basingstoke, this weekend.
It is the first time the contest has been held in the county and a record crowd is expected.
As well as traditional ploughs, the two-day event has modern equipment and giant steam ploughing engines on show.
It hopes to show how farming has changed over the past 200 years.
Vanessa Morris, a tenant of Bushfield Farm, in Winchester, is among the five plough-women taking part.
The championships are on October 11-12, with presentation of trophies at 5pm each day.
