CHILDREN put their taste buds to work as they prepare for a culinary event.

Year 3 pupils of Bishop’s Waltham Junior School had a demonstration from Bishop’s Waltham fishmonger Peter Atkinson, while home economist Davina Tibbetts visited the school with a variety of fish for children to touch, smell and taste.

The workshop was organised by Billingsgate Seaford School in preparation of Bishop’s Waltham: Come Dine with Us, a week of food celebrations from July 13 featuring live music, chocolate tasting, cookery lessons and demonstrations.

The seven and eight-year-olds will be using their knowledge of fish to create fishy summer salads to enter into a competition. The best salads will be served in the town’s eateries during the week-long event.

Youngsters at Bishop’s Waltham Infant School will also be getting involved with the event by designing an afternoon tea to be served in cafes on July 19.
