By Andrew Napier
AN Alresford church is seeking to re-use more of its graveyard as the town begins to run out of burial space.
St John's church wants to clear away early Victorian memorials from the mid-19th century and use the space for modern interrals at a shallower depths so no coffins would be disturbed.
The old headstones and footstones would be paired up and placed along the eastern boundary wall of the churchyard.
St John's would like to hear from any families that may be affected.
Town and city councillor Margot Power said: "Alresford is going to run out of graveyard space in the next ten years."
Winchester ran out of space in the mid-20th century and so opened the large cemetery at Morn Hill.
