AN Alresford pub is under new management after the previous landlady left only three months into the job.

Phil Cripps, 57, and Shelley Burns, 43, took over the Horse and Groom on Broad Street on June 4.

As reported in the Hampshire Chronicle regulars at the watering hole were left fuming after former landlady Sarah Stamper cancelled the pub’s weekly quiz just weeks into the job last February.

But the new couple have now vowed to re-introduce the 13-year-old quiz after the last World Cup match on July 11.

Phil, who previously ran a pub in Melton Mowbray, said: “The quiz will have a £250 opening prize which will snowball but it’s a bit busy to reintroduce it at the moment due to the football.

“We have only been here for a couple of weeks so we want to settle in and get a feel for what everyone wants here.”

The pub also features a new menu with home cooked food by Shelley after the kitchen shut down for a month to be refurbished.

Phil added that food is now being served from 9am to 4pm seven days a week.
