A FIRECREW from Alresford has been sent to Shirley Towers in Southampton where two firefighters died on Tuesday night.
The Alresford crew were at the scene earlier today to help reassure the community stunned by the deaths of James Shears, 35, and Alan Bannon, 38, who were based at St Mary’s Station.
In a statement the fire service said two appliances would remain at the scene “to support the community and answer any safety concerns they may have, and to show respect for the firefighters who lost their lives.”
Meanwhile a Union flag flew at half mast at the North Walls fire station in Winchester. Three firemen from the station died in the Southampton Blitz in 1940, the last time firefighters have lost their lives in Southampton.
