Villagers delving in schools' histories

10:32am Tuesday 2nd March 2010

VILLAGERS are researching the history of schools in their parish near Alresford.

People in Bramdean and Hinton Ampner have received a grant from their local county councillor Felicity Hindson towards the social history of education.

The booklet will be free to all households in the parish and sold in the two churches to raise funds.

The primary school on the A272 in Bramdean closed in the 1980s. Hinton Ampner House, now owned by the National Trust, was taken over in World War Two and used for girls from Portsmouth Grammar School.

Anyone with memories to share should call Mandy Bulloch, 01962 771341, Barbara Holyome 01962 771366 or Anne Newson, 01962 771361.
