EFFORTS to make Alresford a greener place are being stepped up.
The Low Carbon Living project is organising a series of events to help people respond to climate change.
It offers solutions that show how they can become involved in reducing energy consumption and waste in Alresford.
Next Wednesday (February 10), at Alresford Recreation Centre, a 'Climate Change Condensed' workshop organised in partnership with COIN (Climate Outreach and Information Network) will discuss all the issues around climate change, using short video presentations from scientists and mixing expert knowledge and group discussion.
Places are limited and free to Alresford residents; to book, call Jon Cranfield on 01962 733932 or email events@alresfordgreening.org.
There is also a free fair at Perins School in Alresford on Saturday February 27, starting at 1pm.
The fair will be opened by wildlife expert and star of BBC's Springwatch and Autumnwatch, Chris Packham, who will also make a keynote speech.
It will showcase ideas, skills and positive solutions that can be adopted by Alresford to lower the community's carbon footprint.
There will feature presentations, entertainment and stalls with an environmental theme, some run by local community groups, that demonstrate existing and proposed projects and products aimed at a sustainable lifestyle.
Both events are organised by the Alresford Greening Campaign and are funded through a £4,345 grant by the Big Lottery Fund, which distributes half of the National Lottery good cause funding across the UK. The Fund aims to enable others to make real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need.
The Alresford Greening Campaign aims to educate and support residents and businesses to take simple steps to reduce their carbon footprint. They welcome new supporters; if you would like to take part in the campaign, write to Susan Shannon at 17 Salisbury Road, Alresford, or email your details to info@alresfordgreening.org.
