A STALWART of Alresford has had a new housing development named in his honour.
Roy Robins died last year but his community spirit was so revered the town decided to put his name to a new block of flats near Alresford Station.
The 92-year-old moved to Alresford in 1974 and set up a planning consultancy. He worked tirelessly for The Alresford Society, his father was a founding member, and in the years leading to his death his efforts were concentrated on opening a museum in the town.
Roy's daughter, 63-year-old Sally Giles of West Street, said: "I was very proud that somebody appreciated his contribution to Alresford enough to name the development after him. I thought it was a lovely thing to do.
"Roy had a love of life and people and he had the ability when he was talking to someone that they would be the whole focus of his attention. He was interested in everything. There was not a subject going that he did not have an interest in."
The three-storey development is called Robins Close and is on the site of Watercress Line's former coal yard. It consists of eight two-bedroom and six one-bedroom shared-ownership flats.
