A PROJECT is underway to build nine new homes in the heart of Alresford.
The plans, which have not yet been submitted to Winchester planners, involve putting a mixture of houses and apartments behind Stiles of Alresford shop, in Broad Street. It is proposed that outbuildings behind the business will be knocked down or converted to make way for the new properties.
Speaking after a meeting to discuss the project on Wednesday (July 30) evening, Barbara Jeffs, chairman of New Alresford Town Council's planning committee, said councillors had concerns about the amount of homes being proposed.
She said the make-up of the development - which will consist of one four-bedroom and three three-bedroom homes and five one- or two-bedroom flats - would make the site "over cramped".
Cllr Jeffs, said: "Overall the council's opinion is that yes, in principle, we support the project. We have been campaigning to have the area tidied up. But at the moment, it's slightly cramped."
If the application gets the green light it will mean 16 long-term parking spaces, currently used by businesses and residents in the area, would be lost.
