A WOMAN suffered serious injuries following a car crash near Alresford this morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision on Jacklyns Lane by the Alresford Cricketers pub shortly after 9am.

The collision involved a black Audi A3 and a green Ford Fiesta.

Firefighters from Winchester Fire Station were at the scene for 25 minutes and cut out two trapped passengers in the Ford Fiesta.

Nick Mills from Winchester Fire Station, said: "When we arrived at the accident was outside a pub called the Alresford Cricketers, the occupants of the car had been taken inside the pub and were treated by paramedics.

The female driver of the Fiesta was taken to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries that were intially thought to be life-threatening.

Two children who were passengers in the vehicle have also been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Audi was treated at the scene of the accident.

Jacklyns Lane was closed for several hours for a police investigation.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service, said: "The Crash was at 8.52am. Ambulance sent one rapid response vehicle with an officer and a doctor and two ambulances and one Hazard Area Response Team."

"A five year old boy and a 10 year old girl taken to Southampton General Hospital (SGH) and one adult to SGH."
