ALRESFORD Town Trust is introducing a radical change by launching a membership scheme.

It hopes to attract hundreds of members to take an active interest in the town.

The trust was founded in 1890 to look after assets such as the Old Fire Station and The Avenue and today also runs the Thursday markets in Broad Street.

It also has responsibility for the yellow Town Minibus, the Alresford and District Museum Trust and the Eel House.

Membership will be open to adults in the town and surrounding villages such as Ropley, Cheriton, Old Alresford and Itchen Stoke.

The current policy of the town council nominating five out of the nine trustees will be changed with trustees to be elected by the members.

The membership scheme will be launched at the Swan Hotel with local MP Steve Brine on Friday, September 25.

For enrolment forms and further details please contact the trust at The Old Fire Station, Broad Street, SO24 9AN, or Pam Stevens on 01962 734861.
