ONE of Hampshire’s oldest men has died, aged 101.

Les Holder, of Ellingham Close, Alresford, passed away on March 28 shortly before his 102nd birthday.

He lived for many years in Cheriton and farmed Blackhouse Farm near Hinton Ampner before retiring to Alresford.

Mr Holder remained active, and in 2012 the Chronicle reported how he battled to retain the right to keep his mobility scooter outside his home.

He took an interest in the allotments in Alresford that were opened in 2005.

Allotment holder Andrew Napier said: “I remember Mr Holder coming over and saying he was considering taking a plot. It was hard to believe he was then in his mid-90s.”

There will be a private family service at Basingstoke Crematorium next Wednesday at 10.15am followed by a celebration of his long life at St John’s church in Alresford at 12 Noon.
