THE Alresford Ukulele Jam launched their 2015 calendar with a gig at their spiritual home the Globe on the Lake.

The ukulele players met at the Ukes for All lessons which are held at the pub on Monday evenings.

One founder member Jon Cranfield said they were inspired by similar groups in Southampton and Winchester.

He said: “We started in September 2014 and we have played at a variety of local events and have a number of pub gigs under our belt. We normally have up to 10 players and last night we were half a dozen strong.

“We really enjoyed the gig last night going through a number of different songs including Taylor Swift's Shake it Off, Buddy Holly's Oh Boy, the Cure, the Jam, John Denver, and leaning on a lamp post by George Formby was played on a set list which then became a on demand request juke box known locally as the Alresford Ukulele JukeBox.”

People choose a song and pay a donation for a chosen local cause which was the Alresford PIGS Association.

The players raised just over £40 for the PIGS at the gig on Wednesday evening.

The next gig is at the Horse and Groom on Broad Street on March 25.
